Treatment
Anyone with an addiction or close to someone with an addiction knows the feelings – dejection, loneliness, anxiety, feeling adrift. The same can be said for borderline personality disorder. With extensive experience working with people with addictive disorders and their loved ones, as well as those with borderline personality disorder, I am well positioned to support you in the kind of changes you want to, or need to make.
I offer in-person and telehealth services for those located in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine (unfortunately licensure laws prohibit psychologists from doing virtual-visits with individuals physically located outside of states in which they are licensed). Due to federal regulations related to my work as a clinician at Massachusetts General Hospital , I am not able to see patients receiving Medicaid in my private practice.
What is my approach to treatment?
I have specialized expertise in the treatment of individuals with substance use disorder and associated problems, as well as borderline personality disorder. My clinical approach utilizes empirically supported first-line treatments for addiction including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Heart Rate Variability Biofeedback. I also offer Twelve-Step Facilitation for individuals looking to pursue twelve-step recovery approaches.
My goal is to empower my patients with the skills and tools needed to take command of their recovery from addiction and borderline personality disorder, and along the way address life’s challenges, find new ways of thinking, and new ways of understanding and coping.
Overall, my approach to therapy will depend on the problems for which you are seeking help, as well as your individual clinical and personal needs. It’s of course important you feel I have what you need to feel supported. As such, I offer an optional, complimentary ‘get to know you’ 15 minute phone call. This call lets you to tell me why you are seeking care, and for you to hear my initial thoughts about a treatment plan.
My practice caters to individuals 18 years and older seeking help for any combination of substance use problems, borderline personality disorder, and mental health difficulties, regardless of gender, racial/ethnic, religious identification, or sexual orientation. I take into account several clinical factors, such as problem severity and other ongoing treatment involvement, that help me determine whether outpatient individual therapy with me is a good fit for your treatment needs. In some instances I may encourage patients utilize other supports in addition to individual therapy such as group therapy or mutual-help programs.
What to expect
Our work generally begins with an evaluation that takes one to two sessions. After the evaluation I will offer my clinical impressions and we will collaboratively create a treatment plan. Research shows that ongoing check-ins related to treatment progress can help improve outcomes. We will periodically discuss where we are at in terms of goal achievement, and modify our approach as needed. Sessions are typically 50 minutes.
How do I pay for treatment?
Sessions are billed at a flat rate of $300. While I only accept payment directly from patients or a designated family member (self-pay), I can provide you with the necessary documentation to seek reimbursement from your insurance company.
